Amtrak Expands Rail Service for World Cup Visitors

Kansas City is preparing for large crowds during next summer’s FIFA World Cup, with expanded train service available for travelers. Amtrak and MoDOT are increasing Missouri River Runner capacity by 25% from June 15 to July 12, using extra train cars from Illinois and Michigan to help accommodate visitors.

The route connects St. Louis and Kansas City, with stops in Hermann, Jefferson City, Sedalia, Warrensburg, and Independence.

The trains will include Wi-Fi, a café car, and bike storage, giving travelers another option besides driving.

To help ease traffic during the tournament, MoDOT says they ill reduce the amount of roadwork in the Kansas City area when possible.
