Hunters Can Apply for Bear, Elk Tags Through May

The Missouri Department of Conservation is reminding people to apply for black bear and elk permits during the month of May.

This year’s bear season runs Oct. 17 through Oct. 30.

And there’s a big change. The state is offering 2,000 permits.

The harvest limit also goes up, from 40 bears to 60.

Last year, only nine bears were harvested statewide.

Elk hunting is even more limited.

The elk archery season is scheduled for Oct. 17 to Oct. 25.
