Tense Moments at Nixa Schools

Mathews and Espy Elementary Schools were placed on lockdown, and Nixa High School entered secure mode due to a reported sighting of a person with a weapon on Gregg Road Monday afternoon.

A news release from the Nixa Public School’s says normal activities and student dismissal resumed after thorough checks by school police and local law enforcement.

The district’s safety protocols were followed, and no individual matching the suspect’s description was located, nor was any weapon found on school property.

City Clerk Confirms Hotel of Terror Petition Signatures

An ordinance from the Springfield City Council to place the Hotel of Terror property under eminent domain may be put to voters in April 2026.

City Clerk Anita Cotter confirmed that the amended referendum petition has sufficient signatures, after an earlier petition was found 125 signatures short.

The City Council will now certify the petition before deciding whether to present the issue to voters or repeal the ordinance.

I-44 Off-ramp to Glenstone Will Close for Repairs

The Westbound I-44 off-ramp to Glenstone Avenue will be closed for new pavement installation starting Monday, as part of MoDOT’s I-44 improvement plan in Springfield.

The closure will last up to 21 days, and no signed detours will be provided, requiring drivers to find alternate routes.

Both lanes of I-44 and the U.S. 65 ramp to I-44 will remain open during this period.

Rain Coming to the Ozarks This Weekend

Rain chances will increase in southwest Missouri through Friday night into the weekend.

The National Weather Service says the highest coverage and rain chances will be during the day on Saturday.

Those rain chances will persist into Sunday morning.

Given our recent dry conditions, widespread flooding is not expected, though some rises in streams are possible.

Most locations will receive .75 to 1.00 inches of rain, with localized pockets of 1.5 to 2.5 inches.

Woman Killed In Laclede County Crash

A woman is dead after a crash on Highway P-P in Laclede County.

The Highway Patrol says a Jeep driven by a 34-year-old woman from Niangua crossed the center line, struck on oncoming vehicle, then ran off the road and overturned striking a utility pole.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.
