Shooting On West Whiteside In Springfield

A man is in stable condition at a Springfield hospital after being shot in the leg early Tuesday on West Whiteside Street.

A male suspect, known to the victim, has been arrested, but the motive is unclear.

The investigation is ongoing with no formal charges filed yet.

Devil In the Ozarks Gets 13 More Years In Prison

Grant Hardin, known as the “Devil in the Ozarks,” received an additional 13-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to second-degree escape in Izard County Circuit Court.

This sentence will run consecutively to the 80 years he is already serving for rape and murder.

Hardin escaped from the North Central Unit in May 2025 but was apprehended two weeks later.

His criminal history includes his conviction for the rape of a teacher and the murder of James Appleton.

He was featured in a TV documentary about his case.

Stafford Sports Complex to Close

The Strafford Sports Center announced it is closing in early May.

The 33,200 square foot facility with four basketball courts has been in operation for six years.

The reasons for the closure and future plans for the facility have not been disclosed.

Silver Dollar City will retire its Thunderation mine train roller coaster after 33 years of operation, with the final day set for January 2, 2027.

Since its opening in 1993, the ride has hosted over 27 million riders along 3,000 feet of track in the Ozarks.

A year-long celebration will commence with an opening ceremony on March 13, culminating in a farewell event on the final operating day, featuring special rides, promotions, and merchandise.

Tense Moments at Nixa Schools

Mathews and Espy Elementary Schools were placed on lockdown, and Nixa High School entered secure mode due to a reported sighting of a person with a weapon on Gregg Road Monday afternoon.

A news release from the Nixa Public School’s says normal activities and student dismissal resumed after thorough checks by school police and local law enforcement.

The district’s safety protocols were followed, and no individual matching the suspect’s description was located, nor was any weapon found on school property.
