SGF C-U Prepare For Winter Storm

Springfield City Utilities is preparing for dangerously cold temperatures and potential winter weather this weekend by placing crews on standby for service disruptions.

Transit operations may be affected, and riders are encouraged to stay updated via C-U Transit’s social media or the My Ride SGF app.

Information will be shared on the C-U website and social media, with emergency alerts sent as necessary.

Customers can download the My Account app for emergency notifications.

Winter Storm Threatens to Strain Local Blood Supply

Community Blood Center of the Ozarks is warning the winter weather forecast for this weekend may significantly disrupt blood donation efforts.

With inventory levels already strained because of increased hospital usage, CBCO leaders say widespread blood drive cancellations and reduced donor turnout could quickly affect the blood supply.

Eligible donors are being urged to give blood before the winter storm hits Friday night.

Impactful Winter Storm With Accumulating Snow to Affect the Ozarks This Weekend

A Winter Storm Watch is in effect for all of the Ozarks starting at 6pm Friday and going through Noon on Sunday.

The National Weather Service says a large winter storm will track through the area, bringing impactful, accumulating snow through Sunday.

Dangerous cold will accompany this system, bringing single digit lows and below zero wind chills through at least next Tuesday.

The weather service says 3-8 inches of snow are possible, with the lower amounts toward central Missouri.

High end amounts could approach 9 to 10 inches across far southern Missouri from Anderson to Branson to West Plains.

6 to 7 inches of snow are currently forecast for the Springfield area, but changes to the forecast remain possible.

Forecasters say moderate impacts are expected for much of southwest Missouri. Expect disruptions to daily life with hazardous driving conditions. Closures and disruptions to infrastructure may occur.

The Springfield Public Schools Board of Education made a unanimous decision to extend Superintendent Dr. Grenita Lathan’s contract for one year, through the 2028-2029 school year, following her annual evaluation.

This marks Lathan’s fifth renewal during her tenure.

The district’s performance has continuously improved over the past three years, as indicated by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education’s 2024-2025 Annual Performance Report.

Man Broke Into a Walnut Grove Home & Ate Their Pulled Pork

A man is in jail after he allegedly broke into a house in Walnut Grove on New Year’s Eve and had a snack.

A probable cause statement says a woman woke up and found her back door open and someone had eaten a container of pulled pork from the refrigerator.

She found a backpack left on the porch containing papers belonging to Josh Peacock of Springfield.

He is in the Greene County Jail charged with first-degree burglary.

The National Weather Service says periods of moderate to heavy snow are possible in the southern Ozarks, with total accumulations between 4 and 7 inches possible.

The greater amounts are expected to be along the Missouri-Arkansas border.

Amounts are expected to taper off greatly the further north you go.

Some models show a 1 to 4 inch difference in snow totals from the northern to southern parts of the same county.
