Lawmaker Wants Speed Limit on Rural Interstates in Missouri Increased from 70 to 75

Drivers in Missouri may soon be able to gas it a little more while travelling down interstates in the state.

State Representative Jamie Burger, R-Cape Girardeau, has pre-filed legislation that would increase the maximum speed limit on rural interstates from 70 to 73 miles per hour.

The proposal would bring Missouri in-line with neighboring states, such as Kansas and Arkansas.

Under the current law, interstate speeds in the Show-Me State are capped at 70 miles per hour outside urban areas.

Burger’s plan would update state law to allow the higher limit on rural stretches.

Two firefighters were also taken to the hospital to be looked at after flames broke out on the top floor of an apartment building.
