Federal, State, and local leaders will meet in Springfield this week to officially kick off the 100th Anniversary of Route 66.
Hosted by the Federal Highway Administration and featuring remarks by Gov. Mike Kehoe, the highlights are the old highway’s historic impact, future planned development, Springfield’s central role as the birthplace of the “Mother Road” and its contribution to shaping the “Travel Culture” in America.
Focus will also be on the future concerning the infrastructure improvements to Route 66’s successor: Interstate 44.
