Amish Leader Facing Charges

Amish leader Sam Shetler (42) who runs the retreat “Mercy and Truth”, is facing multiple charges including three counts of trafficking for purposes of forced labor, four counts of first degree kidnapping, one count of first degree sexual abuse and one count of first degree involuntary manslaughter.

Allegations dating back to 2014 include sexual abuse, forced medication of attendees with up to 80 pills daily and the death of a baby due to Shetler’s claimed medical expertise. Victims reported Shetler pulled a child’s teeth as punishment and used intimidation tactics to prevent escapes.

Shetler has pleaded not guilty.
