The Greene County Prosecutor has charged a man in a fatal domestic assault case.

Felipe Ayala III has been charged with first-degree murder in the beating death of 47-year-old Suzette Flores in Springfield.

Ayala was arrested at the scene Wednesday after police responded to a domestic assault call and found Flores dead.

A hammer located near her body.

A judge has not set a bond for Ayala.

Ozarks Food Harvest Provided More than 23 Million Meals in 2025

Springfield-based Ozarks Food Harvest says it provided more than 23 million meals to kids, families, and senior facing hunger across southwest Missouri through its network of faith-based and community charities in 2025.

The food bank increased distribution by purchasing additional food, responding to an emergency government shutdown in 2025.

Springfield City Utilities Replacing Aging Gas and Water Mains on West Mt. Vernon Street

Springfield City Utilities has begun the process of replacing aging gas and water mains on west Mt. Vernon Street, and that’s creating some temporary traffic changes for drivers.

The project runs from Park Avenue to LaFontaine and should take around 90 days to complete.

While crews are working, Mt. Vernon will be reduced to one eastbound lane.

Drivers traveling westbound will be diverted north on LaFontaine to Elm or Walnut Street, then over to Warren Avenue to reconnect with Mt. Vernon.

The case being reviewed for potential charges.

Marginal Risk For Severe Weather Thursday, With Low, Brief Tornado Risk

A few isolated strong to marginally severe thunderstorms are possible Thursday morning into the afternoon hours across the Ozarks.

The National Weather Service says the stronger storms will be capable of producing damaging winds up to 60 miles per hour.

There is a low, brief isolated tornado risk as well.

The National Weather Service issued a Tornado Watch for McDonald and Newton Counties to the southwest of Springfield until Noon Thursday.

Sunshine Street Bridge to Reopen

MODOT has announced a portion of Sunshine Street will reopen after being closed for construction.

The bridge between Kansas Expressway and Scenic Avenue is set to reopen by Friday following months of construction that began in August.

The completion date was delayed from December to January.
