A judge has sentenced a former Christian County state representative to six years in prison after a federal jury found her guilty of fraud.
Investigators say Dr. Tricia Derges of Nixa was found guilty of 22 counts of wire fraud, illegal distribution of a controlled substance, and making false statements to investigators.
The federal trial jury convicted her of fraudulently receiving about $300,000 in federal COVID aid for her medical clinic.
She was also convicted of selling fake stem cell treatments.
The name of a man from Springfield who drove through an area home Monday night has been released.
Prosecutors have charged Shelby Shaffer with resisting arrest, tampering with a motor vehicle and leaving the scene of an accident.
Investigators say Shaffer evaded deputies with the Greene County Sheriff’s Office after they attempted a traffic stop, leading to a chase that ended with the crash.
He then tried to flee on foot, but was subdued by a K9 unit.
No one was injured during the pursuit, and everyone inside the home was evacuated safely.
The crash did an estimated $10,000 worth of damaged to the house.
Deputies believe Shaffer drove off due to outstanding warrants against him.
The Springfield Police Department is now opening the application period for an upcoming motorcycle safety course.
Officers will host the “Share the Road” event on Saturday, March 25 to teach riders safety tips to reduce the number of motorcycle related crashes and fatalities in the area.
The department says that online applications are now open, but must be filled out and turned in by 12 p.m. on March 23.
The course will teach advanced riding techniques, object avoidance and motorcycle handling, among other safety measures.
Two tornadoes touched down in the Ozarks early Monday morning. The
National Weather service says a the first EF-0 tornado started at 1:25 a.m near Golden City.
It produced winds of 77 miles per hour. It damaged a barn and some trees. The National Weather Service says a second EF-0 tornado touched down near Bona in Dade County at 1:47 a.m. It produced winds of 76 miles per hour. This tornado uprooted trees.
Nixa’s City Council is tackling rules for recreational marijuana.
At their meeting Monday night, council members put off a vote requiring dispensaries to be at least one thousand feet from churches, schools and daycares, saying they wanted to get more input from the public.
The council did vote to prohibit all city employees from using recreational marijuana during their off-hours unless they have a medical reason to use it.
Authorities in Greene County say two men are in custody after allegedly attacking an elderly couple.
Prosecutors have charged 28-year-old Justin Lentz and 60-year-old William Roy Rush with numerous charges, including assault, kidnapping and robbery.
Greene County Sheriff’s deputies were called to a home on Farm Road 171 near Camorene Street following a home invasion call. When they arrived, they found a couple in their 80s.
The couple told investigators that Lentz and Rush forced their way into the home by assaulting them and spraying them with an unknown chemical before tying them up.
Investigators say several items were stolen, including the couple’s Ford Mustang.
Deputies were able to track the Mustang down and arrest both men.
Governor Parson will sign an 8.7% pay raise for state employees into law today.
The Governor says there are currently more than seven thousand open positions across state government, adding the wage increase is the minimum that lawmakers must do.
