Senior Center Providing Safety and Relief for Shell Knob Residents

Shell Knob visitors now have a new resource during Ozark storms.

The Central Crossing Senior Center added a generator and tornado shelter, allowing the facility to provide the community with warm, cold, and storm relief.

Funded by community estate donations, the shelter withstands 200 mph winds, holds roughly 200 people, and includes two bathrooms. Additionally, the new generator maintains climate control during power outages.

Shell Knob Seniors CEO Sam Herkelman emphasized that the safety of both residents and summer tourists is a priority.

Open to everyone, the shelter is accessible via staff during weekdays or by calling 417-727-0231 after hours, providing peace of mind to the lake community.
