A teenager from Republic reported missing two weeks ago has been located.

The Republic Police Department said in a Facebook post that 16-year-old Makenzie White had been located and was safe.

She had last been seen on January 27th.

Trial Set for Man Accused in Fraudulent Hunting Scheme

A judge has set a trial date for a man accused of running a fraudulent hunting scheme.

Teddy Eddings allegedly took deposits from hunters for trips that never happened. Eddings is also accused of taking money from investors who say they were never paid back and never became owners of the business.

Eddings will stand trial in Greene County on September 25th.

Nixa Police Looking For Endangered Man

Nixa Police need your help in locating an endangered person.

Police say 34-year-old Ben Mills disappeared Wednesday morning.

He is 6 foot 1 and weighs 200 pounds.

He is dressed in black.

He was last seen at the Casey’s on West Cardinal in Springfield at 2 a.m.

He is without his medication.

Online Publication: Greene County Clerk Shane Schoeller to Announce Run for MO Secretary of State

A private news service that covers state politics is reporting that Greene County Clerk Shane Schoeller will announce his candidacy for Missouri Secretary of State at this weekend’s Lincoln Days in Springfield.

MOScout reports Schoeller’s committee treasurer is former State Representative Paul Curtman.

Schoeller was the Republican candidate for Secretary of State in 2012, edging out Scott Rupp and Bill Stouffer in a three-way primary.

The current Secretary of State, Jay Ashcroft, has been listed as a likely candidate for Governor in 2024.

MO Senator Josh Hawley Proposing Social Media Age Restriction

U.S. Senator Josh Hawley of Missouri is proposing a bill that would set a minimum age requirement for children to have social media.

According to the bill, the age limit would be set at 16-years-old.

It would also require social media companies to confirm the age of their users before allowing them to create an account, and create a Congressional study on the mental health effects of social media on children.

Hawley says the law is designed to help protect children online.

Moon Files Legislation to Keep LGBTQ Conversations Out of Schools

State Senator Mike Moon has introduced legislation in the Senate that would largely ban K-12 public school teachers and counselors from talking about sexual orientation and gender identity.

Critics say Moon’s bill is more restrictive than Florida’s so-called “Don’t Say Gay” law.

The bill would allow only licensed mental health care providers to talk to students about gender identity and LGBTQ issues and only if guardians first give permission.

MO Legislature Tackles Distracted Driving

State Legislators have introduced five bills addressing the issue of distracted driving.

There are no restrictions currently on the use of cell phones by drivers 21 and older.

The bills would criminalize the use of cell phones while driving and encourage using hands-free cell phone technology.

Missouri and Montana are the only states without distracted driving laws.

Suspect Has Standoff With Ozark Police

A man was arrested after a standoff with police at an apartment building in Ozark Tuesday afternoon.

The Ozark Police Department and Springfield Special Response Team responded to a disturbance call at an apartment building on West Petrus Circle around noon Tuesday.

Police say 23-year-old Stanchez Sampson held a woman against her will before she escaped and called 9-1-1.

Sampson then barricaded himself in the apartment.

The standoff with law enforcement lasted around three hours.

He is jailed on a no-bond warrant.

Flood Watch Through Wednesday

The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch until Thursday morning for several counties in the southern Ozarks.

The area included is along and south of I-44.

Up to three inches of rain is expected impacting creeks, rivers and low water crossings overnight.
