Governor Parson Considers Calling Special Legislative Session to Challenge President Biden’s COVID-19 Vaccination Mandate

Missouri Governor Mike Parson says the Show-Me State will oppose President Biden’s plan to require COVID-19 vaccinations or testing for many workers on “multiple fronts.”

In an interview with the Kansas City Star, Parson left open the possibility of calling a special legislative session in Jefferson City.

When asked about the President’s mandate-or-testing proposals, Parson said “I don’t plan on letting that happen in Missouri. I think the President is totally wrong on the policy he’s setting forth.”

Parson used the “multiple fronts” statement when asked about whether Missouri’s response to the Biden Administration would involve a lawsuit by Attorney General Eric Schmitt or a special session.

On Friday, the state reported more than 2,500 newly confirmed cases of COVID-19, 20 new deaths, and just over 2,000 hospitalizations.

The number of confirmed cases of the virus in the Springfield-Greene County area continues to go down, with the health department reporting a seven day case average of 58 as of Thursday.

The seven day average hit as high as 236 on July 20th, but has been declining since that peak.
