Missouri Eyes $216M for Rural Hospitals

There’s some help on the way for small-town hospitals in Missouri.

The Missouri Department of Social Services is rolling out more than $216 million in federal Rural Health Transformation funding.

A spokesman with Missouri Health Net put it pretty plainly. Bigger hospital systems can usually absorb a hit.

Some of these hospitals, he said, are operating with very little cash on hand. So getting help quickly matters. It helps them stay open, keep seeing patients, and keep money coming in.

More funding is expected soon, too.

That includes about $17 million set aside to help recruit and keep healthcare workers in rural areas.
