Man Jailed For Starting Fire at Hotel of Terror

A man faces arson charges for attempting to set the Hotel of Terror on fire on Saturday morning.

Springfield Police arrested Michael Howerton after he allegedly tried to burn the building around 9 AM.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames resulting in minor damage.

Business owner Sterling Mathis stated he does not know Howerton and the reasons behind the attempted fire.

Howerton is currently being held in the Greene County Jail.

Stolen Car Hits Pole

Springfield Police responded to a report of a stolen car involved in a crash late Sunday night at Bennett Street and Oak Grove Avenue, after the vehicle struck a traffic pole.

The driver fled the scene but was later arrested near Lone Pine and Sunshine.

No injuries were reported, and no formal charges have been filed.

KWTO’s Trivia Night has raised $4,670 for Honor Flight of the Ozarks.

The money goes directly to Honor Flight’s mission of getting our veteran heroes to Washington D-C to see their war memorials and monuments.

A big congratulations to our winning team of Boomers, Zoomers & Beyond, whose 83 out of 100 points narrowly won over QPS Missouri, who scored 82.

A federal judge dismissed a lawsuit from the Missouri Attorney General’s Office against Starbucks regarding its diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.

The lawsuit, filed in February 2025 by then-Attorney General Andrew Bailey, claimed that Starbucks’ DEI practices constituted unlawful discrimination.

However, U.S. District Court Judge John Ross ruled that the state failed to identify any Missouri resident harmed by these employment practices, leading to the formal dismissal of the case.

Motorcyclist In Critical Condition

A motorcyclist is hospitalized in critical condition after a crash in Springfield Friday night.

Springfield Police say the crash happened at the intersection of South Harvard Avenue and East Swallow Street when a car was making a turn and the motorcycle struck the car.

The rider of the motorcycle landed under the car.

Firefighters got the motorcyclist out from underneath the car.

The snow if just about melted, and warmer temps have moved into the Ozarks, with more increases in temps in the coming days.

The National Weather Service says highs will likely reach the mid 60’s to low 70’s by Monday.

Dry conditions are expected through Monday.
