MO Sport Hall Distributes More Money From 2024 Charity Championship

The Missouri Sports Hall of Fame will distribute the second phase of funds to the charities of the 2024 Price Cutter Charity Championship presented by Hiland Dairy.

C-E-O and Executive Director Rob Marsh said Friday that the second phase of funds is about to be distributed to the 47 charities of the 2024 tournament.

Marsh says an additional $150,000 has been raised for the charities.

The charities received more than $300,000 six weeks ago.

The Hall of Fame has managed the tournament since it began in 1990.

It has raised over $20 million dollars for charities.

Store Expanding In Battlefield Mall

Officials with Dillard’s say the store is moving and expanding its location in the Battlefield Mall. Dillard’s is combining its stores in the mall into a larger site formerly occupied by Sears.

The new store will have almost 180,000 square feet and will be a single level. Dillard’s is the largest tenant in the Battlefield Mall.

Springfield Begins Process Of Taking Over Apartment Building

The City of Springfield is moving to take ownership of Jenny Lind Hall Apartments.

The apartments are home to several elderly and disabled people, and the elevators in the building have not worked for almost a year. The building is owned by Millennia Housing, which is based in Cleveland.

The city has filed a 60-day notice of the city’s intent to file an application of receivership, the first step in taking control of the building.

Wintry Weather Monday Through Wednesday Next Week

Confidence is increasing in a series of storm systems bringing accumulating wintry precipitation to the Ozarks on Monday into the middle of next week.

The National Weather Service in Springfield says at this time, the greatest chances for winter weather impacts will be north of Springfield, but the exact track of the system and precipitation types and amounts are still unknown.

Here’s the latest from the NWS Hazardous Weather Outlook:

Colder air will move in next week with multiple chances for
winter precip beginning as early as Monday night with additional
rounds through mid week. While exact winter types and amounts are
uncertain, a winter mix of sleet, freezing rain and snow will
likely cause at least minor impacts across the area next week,
especially along and north of an west to east line through
Springfield. Stay up on the forecast as we head through the
weekend.

Amazon Delivery Driver Shot Near Pierce City

An Amazon delivery driver is in critical condition after being shot near Pierce City.

The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office says the incident happened Wednesday afternoon on County Road 2152 west of State Highway 97.

A witness called 9-1-1 to say an Amazon delivery truck ran off the road and struck a fence.

Investigators say the driver had been shot in the head.

Investigators questioned 64-year-old Thomas Coy of Wentworth, who confessed to shooting the driver with a pellet gun.

He is being held in the Lawrence County Jail without bond facing charges of assault with a deadly weapon, armed criminal action, and unlawful use of a weapon.

Fugitive Wanted In Greene County Teen’s Death

Greene County Sheriff’s Department for a fugitive wanted in connection with the death of a teenage girl last week.

The prosecuting attorney’s office has charged Evrinn Worlds with abandonment of a corpse and tampering with evidence in the death of 14-year-old Jackie Strahle of Springfield.

Strahle’s body was found January 28 on a property on West Farm Road 140.

Sheriff Jim Arnott says this is an on-going investigation and anyone with information about the case should contact the sheriff’s office.

Man From Springfield Accused Of Threatening ICE Agencies

A man from Springfield faces federal charges for allegedly threatening Immigration and Customs Enforcement employees in several states.

Gabriel Ramsey is accused of sending threatening emails to ICE offices in San Diego, Philadelphia, and York, Pennsylvania. He’s also accused of calling the California office of Enforcement and Removal in Fresno and making threats, and allegedly making threatening calls to an office in Denver.

Ramsey is being held in the Greene County Jail without bond.

Is Missouri Banning Cell Phone Use In Schools?

The Missouri House of Representatives is considering several bills to restrict the use of cell phones in schools.

The bills would prohibit students from using their phones during instructional time, but would also give school districts some freedom to make their own cell phone policies.

A vote on the legislation could come as early as next week.

Influenza And Whooping Cough Cases Still Rising In Greene County

Flu cases in Greene County have nearly doubled over the last three weeks, according to the Springfield-Greene County Health Department, bringing the highest rate of cases since 2003.

Cases of pertussis (whooping cough) is also increasing drastically, with 21 cases in the first 36 days of the year. On average, the county sees a total of 12 cases per year.

In order to keep yourself, and those around you healthy, the CDC and the Springfield-Greene County Health Department suggest staying home when sick, washing hands frequently with soap and water, disinfecting frequently touched surfaces, and coughing and sneezing into your elbow to prevent contamination of your hands.
