Springfield Airport Sets Records And Announces New Projects

 

2024 was a banner year for the Springfield Airport with a total of 1,426,922 total passengers served, up 10.4% from last year.

In order to keep up with the growth, Airport Director Brian Weiler announced four new projects while asking passengers to “bear with us” as improvements take place.

Projects include replacing the carpeting at the terminals, replacing five of the airport’s ten jet bridges, expanding the tarmac around the terminals, and almost doubling the size of the short-term parking lot.

The total investment in these projects is estimated by the Springfield Airport to cost $25.4 million.

Mercy Set To Open New Specialized Clinics

Mercy and Humana are teaming up to open new clinics for people age 65 and older. Mercy already operates five 65 Prime Plus clinics in Missouri. The partnership with Humana will help Mercy open more clinics.

Mercy President and CEO Steve Mackin says the goal is for the clinics to become mini community centers where people can see their doctors, get answers to questions about Medicare, and participate in activities.

Missouri Jumps In On Trump Immigration Plans

Leaders in Missouri stand ready to use state resources to help President Trump enforce immigration law as he takes office. Trump begins his next four years with a focus on taxes, foreign policy, and immigration.

Governor Mike Kehoe last week signed two executive orders that will have state and local law enforcement assisting in enforcing immigration laws.

One order has designated members of the Highway Patrol to be trained to help with investigating, arresting, and detaining illegal immigrants, working with the Department of Homeland Security. Another adds immigration status data to the state’s crime reporting system.

Missouri State Band Met With Disappointment In D.C.

The Missouri State University Pride Marching Band traveled to Washington, D.C., to perform in the inaugural parade, but there was no parade due to bad weather.

Pride Band Director Dr. Brad Snow says band members were disappointed they didn’t perform at the inauguration.

Snow says there was a chance the band could have performed when the event was moved indoors, but it didn’t work out.

Missouri Senator Weighs In On TikTok

Missouri Senator Josh Hawley says the U.S. Supreme Court ruled correctly “on the law” in upholding a ban on TikTok. He says the problem is China preventing the sale of the app to a buyer in the U.S.

The Senator says he thinks the Trump extension, which allowed TikTok to go back online after briefly being halted over the weekend, will continue discussions about a sale.

Flu And Respiratory Illness On The Rise

Area health care professionals say they’re seeing an increase in the number of people with flu and respiratory illnesses.

Dawn Day, a registered nurse at Mercy Hospital, says the emergency department has seen a rise in the number of people with respiratory illnesses.

Day says an urgent care center is a good place to start if you have symptoms of flu, COVID, or other illnesses.

WATCH LIVE: President Trump Takes Oath of Office at 11am Monday

President Donald J. Trump takes the Oath of Office Monday as the President of the United States, and 93-3 and AM 560 KWTO will have a front row seat to the inaugural festivities, the swearing in at 11am and the President’s inaugural address.

Beginning at 10:45am, KWTO will team with Fox News to broadcast the ceremony, which culminates with President Trump being sworn in as the 47th President of the United States.

D-W-I Crash Causes Power Outage

A crash early Sunday morning led to some Springfield residents being without power.

Springfield Police say a pickup truck crashed into a utility pole at the intersection of Fremont and Grand around 2 AM Sunday.

The driver was arrested for driving while intoxicated.

C-U says around 500 residences were without power for about an hour.

Aurora Man Arrested For Threatening Parole Officers

An Aurora man is in jail for threatening two parole officers.

Court documents say two probation officers and two parole officers went to a residence on West Pleasant for 32-year-old Julian Jackson who was non-compliant while under supervision.

Jackson allegedly became combative and threatened the officers.

He is charged with tampering with a judicial officer.

He is in the Lawrence County Detention Center and denied bond.

The Highway Patrol assisted the Aurora- Marrionville Police with the arrest.

Forsyth Pedestrian Killed in Hit and Run Crash

A pedestrian was killed in a hit-and run crash Friday night on U-S-160 in Forsyth.

The Highway Patrol says a 64-year-old Forsyth man was struck by an unknown vehicle which fled the scene.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
