Grant Avenue To Close To Southbound Traffic

The City of Springfield will close southbound traffic on Grant Avenue starting next week.

Starting Monday, December 4th, the section of the street between Sunshine Street and University Street will close to southbound traffic.

The City expects it will be closed for three months or until the construction is completed.

Woman from Springfield Arrested, Accused of Assaulting Officers Near Martha’s Vineyard

A woman from Springfield is being held in the Greene County Jail on numerous charges, including assaulting a police officer.

Investigators say 24-year-old Destiny Jenkins was involved in a disturbance with another person that escalated to an assault Sunday morning along West Olive.

When officers arrived, they attempted to break-up the assault. They say that’s when Jenkins became violent with police, resisting arresting and assaulting officers as well.

She has been charged with:

  • Two counts of third-degree assault of a special victim
  • Fourth-degree domestic assault
  • Property damage
  • Resisting arrest

Jenkins is being held on a $25,000 bond and has a hearing scheduled for December 1.

Stolen Car Leads to Arrest of Two in Springfield

A search for a stolen car in Springfield has landed two people in police custody for theft and resisting arrest.

Officers say they stopped the car Monday night near the intersection of Golden and Mount Vernon.

Police discovered the vehicle was stolen and attempted to arrest the driver. The driver then resisted the arrest and an altercation occurred.

Additional officers responded to the scene, and the driver and a female passenger were eventually taken into custody.

The initial officer was treated for minor injuries at the scene.

The identities of the two suspects have not been released at this time.

Dr. Sam Alexander Announces Run for State Senate

Dr. Sam L. Alexander has announced his plans to run for Missouri State Senate, District 28, in 2026.

He made this announcement on ‘Wake Up Springfield’ on 93.3 FM- 560 AM KWTO while guest-hosting the show with State Senator Curtis Trent.

The 28th district is currently held by Sandy Crawford, who will term out in 2026.

Dr. Alexander is an emergency medicine doctor for Cox Health, and he unsuccessfully ran for the 7th Congressional district in 2022.

West Plains Man Trial Set for Infant Death

A West Plains man is set to stand trial in September of 2024 for his alleged role in the death of an infant.

In August of 2022, Levi Coffel was caring for 4 small children, including an infant, at home alone. Coffel had placed the infant in a bathtub in a bath seat, left the room, and returned to find the infant submerged underwater.

When police arrived on the scene, Coffel was found to be intoxicated, and provided police with an inconsistant account of what took place.

He is being charged with abuse and neglect of a child resulting in death. The jury trial is set on September 4-6, 2024. He is also set to appear at a pretrial conference on July 22, 2024.

Lebanon Man Sentenced for Arson and Burglary

A Lebanon man has been sentenced for arson and burglary.

In March of 2023, Rene Harvey Jr. was arrested for attempting to light a home on fire.

A Laclede County woman who encountered Harvey was able to provide a description of both Harvey and his vehicle, which led to the arrest.

Harvey has been sentenced to 21 years in prison on two counts of second degree arson, and one count of second degree burglary.

Deputies Pull Over Woman in Lake of the Ozarks, Discover Nearly 100 Grams of Cocaine

A woman is in custody near Lake of the Ozarks after a routine traffic stop led to a drug bust.

Deputies say Trisha Ashford was pulled over in the Village of Four Seasons area the night of Thanksgiving last Thursday.

During the stop, investigators discovered multiple drug-related items, including:

  • Methamphetamine
  • Roughly 90 grams of cocaine
  • A loaded handgun
  • Other drug paraphernalia

Ashford is charged with delivery of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance and unlawful use of drug paraphernalia.

She is being held on a $75,000 bond.

Woman from Springfield Hospitalized after Shooting near Springfield Catholic Schools

Police in Springfield are investigating after a woman was shot and rushed to the hospital.

Officers say the shooting happened Friday night around 8 p.m. along South Ingram Mill Road, west of Highway 65 and the Springfield Catholic School District.

Her injuries were not life-threatening, and the victim even drove herself to an area hospital to receive medical attention.

Reports say the suspect left the scene in a black SUV, but no arrest have been made at this time.

SPD does not believe there is any threat to the public with this shooting.

House Fire in Republic, One Woman Hospitalized

A woman in Republic is recovering in the hospital following a house fire.

First responders say the fire started Sunday evening at around 6:30 along East Moonlight near Logan Street.

Crews arrived in time to contain the flames before any structural damage could occur.

The woman was found inside the home after the fire was extinguished.

The Missouri Fire Marshals are still investigating to determine a possible cause of the fire.

Priscilla Presley is bringing her one-woman show to the Ozarks.

“An Intimate Evening With Priscilla Presley” will be at the Aetos Center For the Performing Arts in Nixa on January 22nd.

Presley will discuss her life with Elvis, as well as her career in television, movies, and business.

There will also be a question and answer segment.
