A man from Springfield will spend over two decades in prison after pleading guilty to shooting a Highway Patrol trooper.
Prosecutors say Justin Jackman pleaded guilty to charges of:
- Assault
- Unlawful use of a weapon
- Unlawful use of a firearm
- Resisting arrest
The trooper was attempting to pull over Jackman in December of 2021 for a traffic violation.
Reports say he sped up and led the trooper on a pursuit that eventually ended on Armory Court near Reed Avenue.
At the point, Jackman drove down an embankment, got out of his car and opened fire on the trooper before fleeing the scene.
The shots hit the troopers’ vehicle and the trooper themself.
Jackman has been sentenced to 25 years in prison.
