One man is in custody after leading police on a car chase, while his passenger is in the hospital.
Investigators say 45-year-old Dameon Horton was flagged down by police at the intersection of Kansas and Mount Vernon Monday afternoon when the chase began.
According to police, he ran through five different red lights, nearly hit multiple cars and reached speeds of over 100 miles per hour during the pursuit.
The chase finally ended when Horton crashed into a utility pole near the intersection of Sunshine and Marion.
A passenger in his vehicle suffered a broken back in the crash.
Horton is charged with second-degree assault, resisting arrest by fleeing, and armed criminal action.
Officers believe Horton may have been under the influence of opioids.
