U.S. Senator Josh Hawley of Missouri is proposing a bill that would set a minimum age requirement for children to have social media.
According to the bill, the age limit would be set at 16-years-old.
It would also require social media companies to confirm the age of their users before allowing them to create an account, and create a Congressional study on the mental health effects of social media on children.
Hawley says the law is designed to help protect children online.
