Man from Springfield Pleads Guilty to Bank Robbery

A Springfield resident has pleaded guilty to charges of bank robbery after using a note to steal nearly $9,000 from a local bank.

Charles King Jr. pleaded guilty to robbing the Guaranty Bank in Springfield in July of 2021.

According to court documents, King walked into the bank and handed the teller a note that said, “I have a gun. This is a robbery.”

The teller then gave King money and he exited the bank.

An investigation ensued where authorities used surveillance footage to identify King, who was not wearing a mask or disguise of any kind when he robbed the bank.

Authorities say it was King’s probation officer who identified him after seeing his photo on the news.

An anonymous source reached out to Springfield PD and the FBI a few weeks later with a tip as to where King was staying.

Police used the tip to arrest King as he was leaving the Springfield Inn Motel.

King’s guilty plea carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison without the possibility of parole.
