James River Power Station Implosion: What You Need to Know About Viewing

The four flue-exhuast stacks at the James River Power Station will be imploded at 9:00 a.m. Saturday morning, and the event is attracting a lot of attention.

Springfield City Utilities is encouraging people to watch the implosion on its Facebook page.

If you’d like to see the event in person from a nearby field, access to utility-owned property just south of the power station will be available through one access point at Kissick and Evans Road.

Carpooling is suggested and access to the property is at your own risk.

As an alternative viewing option, the Springfield-Greene County Park Board is offering a view of the implosion at Lake Springfield Park, located just north of the power plant.

The park opens at 6:30 a.m. Saturday and can accommodate around 250 vehicles in designated parking areas.

City Utilities says multiple cameras will be in place to document the event, including several drones.

Video from these will be provided on social media channels as quickly as possible.

Drone use, by the public or media, is prohibited.

Members of the Springfield Police Department’s traffic section will block three intersections near Springfield Lake during the demolition at the James River Power Station.

Impacted interections include:

Crenshaw Road and Ridgecrest Street, Kissick and Farm Road 188, also Kissick and Lake Ridge.

Traffic will reopen at these intersections when the site is cleared as safe.

MO Attorney General Eric Schmitt’s Statement on DOJ Lawsuit

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Following a lawsuit filed by the Department of Justice over Missouri’s Second Amendment Preservation Act, Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt released the following statement:

“After their disastrous arguments in the Missouri Supreme Court last week, the Biden Department of Justice has now filed yet another partisan lawsuit that seeks to attack Missourians’ Second Amendment rights.

Unfortunately, the Biden DOJ has used this lawsuit as a pretext for them to pull the plug on our successful and innovative federal-state crime fighting partnership, the Safer Streets Initiative.

Since I launched the Safer Streets Initiative in 2019, we’ve filed over 650 charges against nearly 390 defendants with a conviction rate of roughly 98%.

My Office has fought to continue the initiative, but this initiative has been suspended solely because of the Biden Administration’s actions.

Time and again, the Biden Administration has put partisan politics ahead of public safety.

Make no mistake, the law is on our side in this case, and I intend to beat the Biden Administration in court once again.”
