The Springfield-Greene County Health Department is holding a media availability at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday to provide an update on COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations and response to the Omicron variant.

Leaders from the health department will be joined by representatives from CoxHealth, Mercy Springfield, and Jordan Valley Community Health Center.

Former Employee Threatens Springfield Public School District

A former Springfield Public Schools employee has been arrested for making terrorist threats against the school district.

Springfield Police say Brian Price called the Missouri Department of Unemployment to ask about benefits.

He became frustrated and told the unemployment office employee that he was armed and going to “shoot the school.”

Price didn’t name a particular school but mentioned the Kraft Administration Center, which was closed at the time.

Price was arrested at his home and remains in jail.

Vicious Dog Attacks Postal Work & Two Others In Monett

Authorities are investigating a vicious dog attack that injured three people in Monett.

It happened Tuesday afternoon.

A postal worker suffered serious injuries and had to be rushed to a hospital with two other people.

Arrest Made in New Year’s Day Apartment Fire In Springfield

Springfield Police have arrested a man suspected of starting a fire at an apartment complex on New Year’s Day.

The fire happened at an apartment in the 2900 block of East University.

The residents had called Springfield Police several times about the man causing a disturbance New Year’s Eve.

Witnesses say he broke into his ex-girlfriend’s apartment and set it on fire.

The fire is still under investigation.

No charges have been filed yet.

Ponder Pleads Not Guilty

A man charged in a fatal shooting outside a bar on the Bagnell Dam Strip has pleaded not guilty to criminal charges.

Tonka Ponder is charged in the death of Blaine Curley on July 15, 2021.

Police say surveillance video shows that Ponder was involved in a fight between rival motorcycle clubs when gunfire was exchanged.

Ponder drew his gun and shot a man who had his hands in the air.

Baker Court Appearance

A man charged with killing his son appeared in a Polk County courtroom.

Chad Baker is charged with first-degree murder and domestic assault in the death of his 12 year old son.

Investigators say the boy suffered blunt force trauma to the head at his grandparent’s home in Bolivar in August of 2020.

Baker’s lawyers and investigators agree that Baker suffers from a neurocognitive disorder.

Baker in custody of the Missouri Department of Mental Health.

No Fatal Crashes Over New Year’s Weekend

Missouri’s New Year’s holiday was much safer than a year ago.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported no fatalities for the crashes they investigated during the holiday weekend.

There were 406 traffic crashes during the accounting period that ran from 6 PM Thursday through midnight Sunday.

That compares to more than 1,200 in 2020.

Troopers reported 91 crash-related injuries but no deaths on the road.

New Hy-Vee Store in Springfield to Include DSW Shoe Shop and a Joe Fresh Clothing Department

Springfield’s new Hy-Vee store on east Sunshine near Lusterwill have a DSW shoe shop and a Joe Fresh clothing department.

Hy-vee recently announced a partnership with DSW as a way to offer more for customers.

Springfield already has one Hy-Vee on west Battlefield near Kansas Expressway, and a DSW location on south Glenstone.

Customers will be able to buy their shoes in the DSW mini shop or check them out with their groceries.

Mercy Changes Visitors Policy Due To Increasing number of COVID-19 Cases

Mercy is changing its policy for visitors because of an increasing number of COVID-19 cases in the Ozarks.

Starting Monday, only one visitor per patient will be allowed in all Mercy hospitals, clinics, and other patient care facilities.

Pediatric and obstetric patients will be allowed two visitors.

Patients who are at high risk for COVID-19 complications will not be allowed any visitors.

Webster County Health Unit Holds Free Drive-Through COVID-19 Testing Monday

The Webster County Health Unit is holding a drive-through clinic near the Marshfield Town Square Monday morning, offering free COVID-19 testing.

The clinic is at 233 east Washington from 8 a.m. until noon.

Folks seeking a test are encouraged to get there as early as they can because the demand for testing has been increasing.

State partners from NextGen Diagnostic Services will assist with the drive-through testing.

The Webster County Health Unit’s nursing team will also be at the YMCA from 10:00 a.m. until noon Monday offering flu and COVID-19 vaccines.
