The Cedar County coroner is waiting for a positive confirmation on the identity of skeletal remains found in a patch of weeds and brush in Eldorado Springs one month ago.
Coroner Nora Powell tells the El Dorado Springs Sun she “has a pretty good idea” on the identity, but it’s taking extra time because she’s trying to save taxpayers money.
Powell tells the newspaper a dental I-D costs around $500, but if she has to use DNA to identify the remains, it will cost aorund $2,000.
The remains were discovered by a man southeast of the new Dollar Store near south First Street across from Woods Supermarket.
Authorities estimate the remains had been there for around six months.
