Louzader’s Lowdown

Welcome to Louzader’s Lowdown!

As news director of KWTO, I want to not only make sure you get the top local news stories around the Ozarks each day, both on air at 93-3, AM 560 KWTO and online at 933kwto.com, but take you behind the news and newsmakers, the sports and sports figures for a closer look.

Look for that content on this blog in the coming days and weeks, but first a little about me!

While I’m new to the legendary KWTO (just started December 7th), I’ve spent the last 25 years in Springfield covering news, sports, weather and traffic information.

I’ve been behind the microphone for some of the biggest local and national news events over the last quarter century, from the September 11th terror attacks to the COVID-19 pandemic and its effects on our local community.

I’m proud to say I was born and raised in the Ozarks, and I’m a 1987 graduate of Marshfield High School.

I earned my Bachelor of Journalism degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia in May, 1991, and started my first radio job a month later.  I worked at KREI-KTJJ Radio in Farmington, Missouri for four years before moving back home in 1995 to work at KTTS.

And I like mornings! I’ve been doing morning news in Springfield since 1996, and you can hear my news and sports each weekday morning on Wake Up Springfield with Tim Jones.

I anchor news at the top and bottom of each hour from 5:30-8:30 a.m., and you can hear my traffic reports at :15 and :45 each hour during the show.

I’m an avid baseball fan and have covered both the St. Louis Cardinals and Kansas City Royals in the World Series, as well as numerous playoff games and two Major League Baseball All Star Games.

I’ve also covered the Missouri State Bears and Lady Bears for many years.

My wife Chris and I have been married for 22 years and make our home in Battlefield. On Wednesday, we filled in for Nate Lucas on Springfield’s Happy Hour after having never been on the radio together.

Take a listen here!

I look forward to chatting with you more for an inside look at news and sports in southwest Missouri.

Have a great weekend!

A 72-year-old man driving a Ford Escape southbound on Fremont had a medical emergency as he approached the intersection of Fremont and Woodland. The car left the roadway and struck 83-year-old Phyllis Tinsley of Springfield before driving into the backyard of a home.

Tinsley died at the scene as a result of her injuries according to the SPD’s updated report. The driver of the vehicle was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police do not believe impairment to be a factor in the incident. This is the second fatal motor vehicle crash in 2021 for the SPD.

Wireless Emergency Alert Goes Out For Statewide Tornado Drill

The alert many of us got on our phone for Tuesday’s annual Statewide Tornado Drill failed to specify that it was just that…..a drill.

The drill was conducted, as scheduled, at 10:00 a.m., and seconds later, a Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) went sent to mobile devices.

It was labelled “Emergency Alert,” instructing the user to “take shelter now in a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building.”

But the alert never specified the Statewide Tornado Drill or even that the alert was a test.

Government partners include local and state public safety agencies, FEMA, the FCC, the Department of Homeland Security, and the National Weather Service.

The Statewide Tornado Drill also involved NOAA Weather Radio, Emergency Alert System activation on radio and T-V, and activation of outdoor storm warning sirens.

Schools, families and businesses were encouraged to participate in the drill and practice sheltering plans in case of a severe weather emergency.

WEA’S are sent by authorized government alerting authorities through your mobile carrier.

Cass’ Corner on Cancel Culture: Dr. Seuss Edition

Today on “CANCELED” ……

DR SEUSS
YES! You heard that right. Your beloved childhood author that taught you how to rhyme and read; who painted beautiful stories in you and your children’s imaginations; who crafted the inspiration for legendary movies, plays, and musicals such as Horton Hears a Who, The Cat in the Hat, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Seussical the Musical, Green Eggs and Ham, and dozens more beloved tales….has been…. CANCELED by the liberal left-wing social media mob of blue haired teens trolling the internet placing scarlet letters on anything they can paint as racist.

It has become the newest, most popular competitive sport of the 21st century: How many people, things, movies, books, politicians, actors, social media stars, classmates, parents, aunts, uncles, brothers, dogs, cats, car brands, football teams, cities, towns, entire regions of a country *cue the entire SOUTH*, can you cancel for being any of the “phobics”, “ists”, or “istics” that rotate through 21st century vocabulary?

Dr. Seuss is under our microscope today for “racial undertones” in his literary works. 6 of his books will now stop being published, so CONGRATS! You now have little bricks of rare gold sitting on your kids bookshelves. I have TROLLED the internet searching high and low for SPECIFIC quotes from these six books with SPECIFIC, FACTUALLY and LOGICALLY sound information detailing exactly how it is offensive and racist, and exactly who and how many people are truly hurting from these books… I am seeing tons of ACCUSATIONS, but very few EXPLANATIONS. So here is what we have so far:

The titles are as follows:
“And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street”
“If I Ran the Zoo”
“McElligot’s Pool”
“On Beyond Zebra!”
“Scrambled Eggs Super!”
“The Cat’s Quizzer”
Here are the exact accusations being raised against Dr. Seuss:
“He drew black boxers as gorillas and perpetuated Jewish Stereotypes by portraying Jewish characters as financially stingy…” According to the following *You guessed it* CNN article: (https://www.cnn.com/2021/03/02/us/dr-seuss-books-cease-publication-trnd/index.html)
According to this study: https://sophia.stkate.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1050&context=rdyl
50 of Dr. Seuss’ books were reviewed and concluded to have portrayed 43/45 “characters of color” in anti-black and anti-asian ways.
In “The Cat’s Quizzer: Are YOU Smarter than the Cat in the Hat?” Seuss referred to a Japanese character as… you guessed it… “a Japanese” (yes, exactly what the character is) and is illustrated with a yellow face and standing on Mt. Fuji. Here is a link to the exact illustration: Oh wait, it’s probably been removed from the entire internet. Thank you, Big Tech, for your services to us Americans to fight the good fight against the evil racist Dr. Seuss.
In “If I Ran the Zoo” Asian characters are physically described as having slanted eyes and complicated spellings to their countries’ names. So… riddle me this….Do Asians NOT have slanted eyes? When did it become racist to describe someone by their god-given physical characteristics?
According to the CNN article and study previously cited, “Since the majority of human characters in Dr. Seuss books are White, his works– inadvertently or not– center on Whiteness and thus perpetuate White supremacy.” So being white in and of itself is now racist. If they had their way, white people would be the new minority.
So there you have it folks… how Dr. Seuss is an evil racist. Turn over your books to Panem, or burn them in the street. Put on your handmaid’s robes and settle in for a long stretch of paying for the sins of your maybe-maybe-not ancestors. Happy hunger games and may the odds be ever in your favor.

No Injuries After Building Collapses in Willow Springs

A building has collapsed on Main Street in downtown Willow Springs.

There are no reports of injuries.

The city administrator says the building, which used to house a clothing store, has been vacant for some time. The current owner planned to tear down the structure this spring.

The building was last inspected three years ago.

City leaders say they knocked on doors, because the building next doors houses apartments, but only two of the units were occupied.

The American Red Cross has assisted in getting those folks relocated, and the entire block of Main Street remained shut down by early Monday afternoon.

Statewide Tornado Drill Tuesday

Severe weather season is approaching, and this week is a good time to plan ways to keep you and your family safe when threatening weather approaches the Ozarks.

Missouri’s 2021 Statewide Tornado Drill will be held Tuesday, March 2nd, at 10 a.m.

This is an opportunity to practice sheltering plans for your home, school or workplace.

Outdoor warning sirens will also sound across Missouri.

At this time, participants should practice taking cover in their designated shelter.

Schools are encouraged to use the drill as an educational tool for students by incorporating tornado facts and meteorological information and safety tips into their lesson plans.

Missouri’s Statewide Tornado Drill is part of Severe Weather Preparedness Week, which includes:

Monday—-Have a Plan/Receive Weather Information Day

Tuesday—–Tornado Safety Day

Wednesday—-Lightning Safety Day

Thursday—-Hail/Wind Safety Day
