The Springfield-Greene County Health Department says they have discovered a new COVID-19 sub-variant, BA.2.
Assistant Director Jon Mooney says the sub-variant has been present in the county for six weeks, first detecting it in February. It was detected through sewage samples that were collected.
Experts say that BA.2 is more transmissible than BA.1, or the Omicron variant.
The BA.2 variant has accounted for nearly a quarter of all COVID-19 cases in the United States since March 12.
