The sun shining brightly on Friday is a welcome sight for Springfieldians digging out from the biggest snowfall in the city sine the blizzard of February, 2011.
The National Weather Service says the storm, which rolled into the area Wednesday night before moving out Friday morning, put down a total of 9.5 inches of snow.
Meteorologists say Springfield officially received 1.0 inch Wednesday nigfht, 6.8 inches on Thursday and 1.7 inches early Friday.
We had considerable blowing and drifting of snow, with some drifts two to three feet deep.
Snowfall amounts varied across southwest Missouri, from 9.5 inches in Springfield and Willard to 8.2 in Republic, 8.0 inches Branson, Ash Grove and Osceola, 7.5 inches in Neosho, 6.5 in Stockton and Lamar, with a general 4-6 inches along I-49 northwest of Springfield and 4-6 inches southeast of Springfield around West Plains.
Friday night will be our coldest of the year so far, with temps getting down to 0-7 degrees before getting up to 35 with sunshine on Saturday.
