Following a night of numerous severe thunderstorm warnings in the Ozarks on Thursday, parts of southwest Missouri are under the threat for more severe weather late Friday.
The National Weather Service says initial supercells are expected to develop across far eastern Kansas and western Missouri in the late afternoon, around 4-6pm.
Forecasts say these storms will continue through the evening, with the severe weather threat lasting into the early morning hours of Saturday.
Large hail up to 1.5 inches in diameter, damaging wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour, and localized flooding from heavy rain will be the biggest threats.
Springfield is under a level 1 “marginal” risk for severe storms, with far southwest Missouri counties McDonald, Newton and Barry under a level 2 “slight” risk.
