A at the Dollar General Market in Stockton has damaged the store’s inventory, but left the building structurally intact.
Store managers found smoke around 7am Friday and called 911.
Firefighters were able to contain the flames, which began at the service counter and had likely been smoldering.
The closed store limited oxygen, causing heat and smoke to spread, resulting in a total loss of merchandise.
Extensive work will be necessary before the store can re-open.
