Banks Pleads Guilty in Workman Murder Case

Bobby Lee Banks has pleaded guilty to first-degree murder related to the 1989 death of Kelle Ann Workman in Wright County court.

As part of a plea deal, charges of first-degree kidnapping and forcible rape were dismissed.

He is scheduled for sentencing in February 2026.

His brother, Leonard Banks, received a 15-year sentence after pleading guilty to voluntary manslaughter.

Kelle Ann Workman was reported missing while mowing a cemetery in Douglas County.

City of Springfield To Survey Residents About Convention Center

The City of Springfield is conducting a community survey to collect feedback from residents and voters regarding a proposed Convention & Events Center.

This initiative aims to assess community priorities and concerns post-November election and is part of a broader outreach including listening sessions.

The anonymous survey, which takes 6-8 minutes to complete, will inform City leadership about necessary adjustments.

The survey will close on December 19.

Woman Gives Birth at Wonders of Wildlife

A mother gave birth at the Wonders of Wildlife aquarium in Springfield on Wednesday afternoon.

E-M-S crews from Mercy assisted the parents via phone during the birth and arrived afterward to transport them to a local hospital.

Bass Pro Communications has not commented on the situation.

Last month, a Marshfield couple had to deliver their baby in the parking lot of the Buc-ees in Springfield.

M-S-U Bears Will Play Against Arkansas State in Xbox Bowl

The Missouri State Bears will compete in its first FBS Bowl game on December 18 against Arkansas State at 8 pm in the XBox Bowl, held at the Dallas Cowboys Headquarters in Frisco, Texas.

After finishing the season with a record of 7-5, the Bears secured their bowl bid in their inaugural FBS season, allowing fans to plan their trip to Frisco for the game against the Red Wolves.

West Sunshine Street Bridge Almost Complete

Drivers may experience delays for a few more weeks regarding a major bridge project on West Sunshine Street.

The $5.9 million project, which began in August to replace the old bridge from the 1960s over the Missouri & Northern Arkansas Railroad, was initially expected to be completed by the first week of December.

However, the MoDOT now indicates that the new bridge could open later this month.
