Former Plaza Towers Owner Pleads Guilty to Federal Charges

The former owner of Springfield’s Plaza Towers has pled guilty to federal charges of illegal firearm possession and tax fraud.

Marco Denis faces state charges for domestic assault and kidnapping related to an incident with his ex-girlfriend.

In his plea, Denis admitted to being a domestic violence offender in possession of a firearm and filing a false tax return.

He faces potential sentences of up to 15 years for the firearm charge and three years for tax fraud.

His next court appearance is scheduled for January 13, 2026.

Salvation Army Sets Christmas Goals

The Salvation Army of Springfield aims to raise $923,000 for its Christmas campaign, including a $225,000 goal for its Red Kettle Campaign.

Funds will support essential services such as emergency shelter, food pantry, after-school childcare, and Christmas assistance for families in the Ozarks.

Missouri State University Donates Property to Springfield For a Park Honoring Route 66

Missouri State University has donated more than 2600 square feet of property to Springfield for a park that honors local and national history.

Springfield City Council unanimously voted last week to accept the land for construction of a Birthplace of Route 66 plaza at Jefferson and Park Central East.

This plaza celebrates Springfield’s role in Route 66’s history in advance of its 100th anniversary in 2026.

Springfield Christmas Parade Takes Place This Saturday, December 13th

Tis the season for Christmas parades!

The Springfield Christmas Parade takes place this Saturday, December 13th from 2 until 4pm.

The parade route runs from near Elm to north on South Avenue before circling Park Central Square and continuing east on St. Louis.

The theme for the parade is “Wrapped In Plaid.”

Nixa and Branson were among the cities to hold their Christmas parades this past weekend.

Up and Down Temps in the Ozarks This Week

Our roller coaster of temperatures in the Ozarks continues this week.

The National Weather Service says we’ll have above normal temps for much of the week, with highs in the 50’s Tuesday through Thursday.

But the pattern starts to change as a strong cold front moves through Thursday night, dropping highs into the 30’s and lows in the teens this weekend.

As of now, no rain or snow are in the forecast.

Guilty Verdict for Suspect in Chaviz Nguyen Murder

A jury found Elysha Bedell guilty of first-degree murder for a shooting in downtown Springfield in November 2023.

Springfield Police say Bedell and four others allegedly fired shots from their vehicle killing Chaviz Nguyen at the intersection of College and Grant.

They also seriously wounded Nguyen’s pregnant girlfriend.

Sentencing for Bedell is scheduled for Friday, December 5, 2025.
