City Council Approves Eminent Domain of Hotel of Terror

Springfield City Council members have unanimously approved starting the eminent domain process to take over Hotel of Terror and the land it sits on along Main Street.

The city wants to replace a 100-year-old bridge.

The attraction’s owner, Sterling Mathis, says he’s not opposed to giving up the lot, but wants three and a half million bucks.

The city’s most recent offer was two million.

The value of the building and land will be decided by a commission of three independent assessors, and if an agreement still can’t be reached, the matter will go to court.
