MO A-G Files Charges Against 3 Shannon County Deputies

Missouri Attorney General Catherine Hanaway has filed criminal charges against three members of the Shannon County Sheriff’s Office.

Charged are Deputy Thomas R. Manning, former sheriff’s deputy John D. “J.D.” Melvin, and Captain Michael G. McCoy, for allegations of abuse and exploitation while acting as law enforcement officers.

Investigators report inappropriate conduct towards women during traffic stops between January 1 and July 29, including inappropriate touching and degrading sexual comments.

Additionally, McCoy and Melvin are accused of forgery related to official court documents.

Attorney General Hanaway says such misconduct undermines the trust placed in law enforcement.
