Fire Crews Currently Battling Wildfire in Mark Twain National Forest

Firefighters with the Mark Twain National Forest Service are battling a wildfire in the Mark Twain National Forest.

According to the Forest Service, the wildfire is estimated to be at 50 acres and still growing.

The fire is located approximately twelve miles south of Cassville and six miles south of Seligman.

Crews are using three Forest Service engines, two dozers and the Mark Twain Veteran Crew to fight this fire.

The wildfire is reportedly not threatening any structures at this time, but smoke is expected to be visible from nearby towns and Roaring River State Park for a couple days.

For fire crews’ safety, hunters and area residents are asked to drive slowly or stay off the roads in the fire area, if possible.

Hunters are also asked to stay away from the interior of the fire perimeter until the fire is completely under control, as the blaze can leave underground hot spots and weakened dead trees.

Once the perimeter has been secured, the Forest Service says that their firefighters will identify and extinguish hot spots.
