Fall Firearms Turkey Season Starts

Missouri’s fall firearms turkey season is underway.

It began Wednesday and will run through October 31.

Hours for hunting start one half hour before sunrise and ends at sunset.

The total bag limit for the combined archery and firearm season is two turkeys of either sex.

Both birds can be taken on the same day.

Hunters must have a permit for the fall turkey season.

Dixon Gives State of the County Address to Chamber

Greene County Commissioner Bob Dixon delivered the annual state of the county address to the Springfield Chamber of Commerce.

Dixon highlighting Greene County’s achievements over the past year and future plans.

He noted the on-time, and under-budget completion of the Kansas Expressway Extension project and ongoing renovations to the Greene County Courthouse, as well as the county’s growth in Republic and Rogersville.

Sheriff’s Office Releases Name of Man Found Dead In Ebenezer Fire

The Greene County Sheriff’s Office has released the name of the man who was found dead in a burning house in Ebenezer Monday.

Investigators say the body of 67-year-old David Baker was found inside a burning house on Farm Road 145 by Ebenezer Firefighters.

Investigators have not released how Baker died.

The investigation is on-going.

Voter Registration Deadline is October 8th

If you’d like to vote in the city of Springfield’s special election on November 4th and you aren’t already a registered voter in Greene County, you have until next Wednesday, October 8th to sign up.

You can register at the County Clerk’s office in the Historic Courthouse on Boonville Avenue in Springfield, at any Missouri Department of Revenue license office, or any branch of the Springfield-Greene County Library system.

Springfield has a 3% hotel/motel tax increase on the ballot that, if passed, would fund a new Regional Convention and Events Center.

Teen Charged With Vandalizing Vehicles on M-S-U Campus

A teenager is charged with vandalizing vehicles in the parking lot of Missouri State University in August.

Court documents say 19-year-old Ryan Schafer of Springfield is charged with felony first-degree property damage.

Schafer allegedly damaged 17 vehicles in a campus parking lot in the early morning hours on August 28.

Schafer is in the Greene County Jail.

Superman T-Shirt Bank Robber Sentenced To Prison

A man from Mississippi who robbed a Springfield bank in a Superman t-shirt has been sentenced to federal prison.

A judge sentenced 50-year-old Scott Tyner of Southaven, Mississippi to a total of 10 years and 11 months in prison for robbing Legacy Bank and Trust in September of 2023.

Springfield Police circulated a security photo of Tyner after the robbery, which gained attention because he was wearing a Superman T-shirt.

Sandy Karnes Announces Campaign For Missouri House, Running in District 139

Sandy Karnes, chairwoman of the 7th Congressional District Republican Party, Senior Real Estate Specialist with Southwest Missouri Realty, and longtime resident of Southwest Missouri, has officially announced her candidacy for the Missouri House of Representatives.

In a press release today, Karnes announced that she will be running for Representative of Missouri’s 139th District.

“I’m not a ‘do nothing’ politician – I’m a neighbor who listens and acts. [And] Together, we can build a stronger District 139 that works for everyone.” Karnes said in the release.

As a former board member of the Real Estate and Mortgage Professionals, an active volunteer in local GOP organizations, and an active participant in the Ozark and Nixa Chambers of Commerce, Karnes says that she understands the challenges facing the voters of Christian County.

“I’m running because Missouri families need effective conservative leadership in Jefferson City,” Karnes said, “As a mother, business owner, and community advocate, I’ve seen firsthand how policies in Jefferson City impacts our daily lives. We need a representative who will fight for our community, elderly and our children – their right to be born, their right to the best education possible, and their right to grow up in the greatest country on earth.”

Karnes also announced that Alex Bryant, nationally-know pastor and Nixa school board member, will serve as her campaign treasurer.
