The Springfield Police Department is announcing a historic promotion of one of its officers.
In a news release, Springfield Police announced that Officer Jeremiah Lockett (photo above) has been promoted to the rank of Sergeant.
Lockett is the first African American to achieve that rank in the history of the Springfield Police Department.
Lockett has been with the police department since 2011.
