The Christian County prosecutor has filed charges against the suspectedly impaired driver that crashed into and killed a Christian County deputy and his wife.
Garrett Cleaver of Webb City faces two counts of second-degree murder, aggravated fleeing resulting in death, and assault after causing the crash that took the lives of Sheriff’s Deputy Mike Adams and wife Ashley.
Investigators say that earlier that night, a deputy attempted to stop Cleaver leaving a known drug house after noticing that his vehicle was without operable lights.
Before the deputy could stop him, Cleaver drove through a fence and into a field, disappearing from the deputy’s sight. Soon after this encounter, Cleaver would crash into Adams’ vehicle on Melton Road at 8:50 p.m.
This is not Cleaver’s first run-in with the law. He has been convicted of vehicular homicide and fleeing authorities before Monday’s crash.
He also had a warrant out for Jasper County before the crash, for failing to appear in court for a vehicle tampering case.
