Man Charged for Crash at Springfield Kum & Go

A man is charged with damaging a Springfield convenience store in February.

Court documents say Dale Hamit is charged with a felony of leaving the scene of an accident with property damage exceeding $1000 dollars.

Springfield Police say Hamit was seen on security footage driving his pickup truck into the front of a Kum and Go on Campbell causing $3,700 in damage.

He was also seen on the video leaving.

He told officers his Crocs were caught on the accelerator.

One Dead in Crash of Small Plane in Stone County

One person is dead and another airlifted to a local hospital following the crash of a small plane Thursday morning near Cape Fair.

It happened near West State Highway 76 and Flat Creek Road.

Missouri State Highway Patrol Sergeant Mike McClure tells KOLR-10 News troopers responded to the crash near the Stone/Barry County line after a citizen called in that they saw a plane go down.

McClure says the plane was a small civilian aircraft and responders had to cut a path to get to the plane as the crash was not at an airfield.

Three Finalists for Springfield’s City Manager

Three finalists for the position of Springfield city manager have been announced.

The finalists are David Cameron, (left) currently city administrator in Republic, Bob Cowell, (center) who has been the city manager of Roanoke, Virginia, and Brian Weiler, (right) currently the Springfield director of aviation.

The three finalists will take part in a series of meetings April 15th and 16th before the city council makes a final selection.

Former School Employee Charged With Child Porn

A former employee of the Dallas County R-1 School District is charged with allegedly possessing child pornography.

A probable cause statement says 29-year-old Austin Paylor of Buffalo admitted to knowingly possessing child sexual abuse material.

The investigation began with a tip from the website Snapchat to Buffalo Police that a user from Buffalo was allegedly uploading illegal content.

Springfield Man Sentenced for Drug-Trafficking

A man has been sentenced for his part in a large-scale drug-trafficking operation.

A judge sentenced 40-year-old Delante Worsham of Springfield to 30 years in federal prison without parole.

Worsham pleaded guilty in 2024 to conspiracy to distribute fentanyl.

He is the eleventh person out of 14 defendants to plead guilty.

Money Issues Decided In Tuesday’s Election

Voters in both the Republic and Willard School Districts approved money issues in Tuesday’s election.

More than 70% of voters said yes to a $22 million “no tax increase” bond issue in Republic, while Willard School District voters approved two separate issues.

More than 78% of voters in the Willard district approved a $30 “no tax increase” bond measure, and just under 68% said yes to the district transferring 22 cents of the levy from debt-service to operating.

The city of Fair Grove’s $1 million bond issue for sewer system improvements passed, with voters in Fair Grove’s fire protection district agreeing to an addition 20 cent levy on $100 assessed value to provide money for full time firefighters, infrastructure improvements and equipment purposes.

The Christian County Ambulance District’s property tax issue passed by only 243 votes.

The Ozark Fire Protection District’s bond issue to improve emergency services by constructing and renovating fire stations failed because it didn’t get the 57% needed for passage.

Voters Decide School Board Races in Tuesday’s Election

There are two new members of the Springfield R-12 School Board as Gail Smart and Sarah Hough won seats, with Smart receiving more than 10,800 votes and Hough picking up more than 11,400 votes.

Incumbent Kelly Byrne lost in his re-election bid.

In the Nixa School Board race, incumbent Bridget Bidinger was the top vote-getter, with Jonathan Lindsay coming in second. Ashtyn Fischer and Tim McKnight finished a distant third and fourth.

Incumbent Sarah Adams Orr and Rae-Ann Wade win over Wade Wheeler in the race for Ozark School Board, while Amanda Kastler and incumbent David Menditto win in the race for Willard School Board.

In Marshfield, voters selected Mark Messick and Janette Clark for seats on the R-1 School District Board of Education.

Schrag Elected Mayor of Springfield

Springfield has a new mayor!

Jeff Schrag has beaten former city council member Mary Collette with 61-percent of the vote.

He will replace Mayor Ken McClure, who could not run again after serving four – 2 year terms.

Schrag is the founder of Mother’s Brewing Company.
