Large Hail and Damaging Winds Accompany Severe Storms North of Springfield

The northern Ozarks has experienced severe weather Thursday morning.

The National Weather Service says parts of Polk, Cedar, Hickory, St. Clair, and Vernon Counties have been under Severe Thunderstorm Warnings for up to quarter size hail and damaging winds of 60 miles per hour.

We expect storms to clear out of the area by Thursday afternoon, with more strong to severe thunderstorms possible beginning Friday night.

State Auditor Gives Stone County Collector’s Office “Poor” Rating

State Auditor Scott Fitzpatrick’s office has released the findings of an audit of the Stone County Collector’s Office.

The audit was requested by Stone County Collector Anna Burk.

The report gives the office a “poor” rating.

The report says a former employee failed to deposit over $19,000 in county funds.

The audit shows that $13,862 is still missing.

Man From Springfield Facing Burglary Charges

A man is facing burglary charges after breaking into a woman’s home.

Springfield Police responded to a report of a burglary in progress Tuesday morning.

A woman said an unknown man with a crowbar and sledgehammer was in her home.

Police later arrested James Rankin of Springfield.

He is charged with second-degree burglary.

Another Murder Suicide in Springfield

Less than a week after police say a man walked into an insurance agency and shot and killed his wife before turning the gun on himself, police are investigating another murder-suicide in the city.

Officers were called to the John B. Hughes Apartments on north Clifton Avenue shortly before 4:00pm Tuesday.

Police found a man and woman dead inside an apartment and four juveniles, who were unharmed.

Investigators say Andrew Calton, 21, Springfield, shot and killed Katrina Dotson, 21, Springfield, then died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

This is Springfield’s 5th homicide of 2025.

Severe Weather and Flooding Chances For Easter Weekend

The National Weather Service says there’s increasing confidence in the potential for strong to severe thunderstorms from Friday through Easter Sunday.

Forecasters say the atmosphere will be conducive for scattered strong to severe storms Friday evening and Friday night, with large hail and damaging winds being the biggest threats.

Much of southwest Missouri is under a Level 2 “Slight Risk” for severe storms on Friday.

For Saturday, the southern and eastern Ozarks are under a Slight Risk for severe weather, and on Sunday, areas east of a line from Branson to Lebanon have the best chance of getting severe thunderstorms.

There’s the additional potential for heavy rainfall and flash flooding through the holiday weekend, with remaining uncertainty in exact details of the heaviest rainfall locations and amounts.

Legal Action Taken Against Webster County Solar Company

The Missouri Attorney General’s Office has taken legal action against a solar company based in Webster County.

A six-count petition was filed against Luke Arthur and Simple Solar LLC.

The A-G’s office accuses the company of misrepresenting its business by telling customers the company would reimburse them during the first 12 months of their solar system installation loan payments.

Write-In Candidates Win Races in Reeds Spring

Write-in candidates have won three races in Reeds Spring.

Barbra Hoke won the mayor’s race, Linda Jansen won the Ward 1 Alderman’s race and Steve Rogers won the Ward 2 alderman’s race.

All three of those folks declared themselves write-in candidates before the April 8th election.

The outcome of the election was delayed because a large number of write-in votes had to be certified.
