Springfield Police to Enforce New Tag Ordinance

Springfield Police say they will begin enforcing the new expired tag ordinance.

They announced in a news release that they will begin towing and impounding vehicles March 26.

One Dead In Springfield House Fire

On Thursday Emergency Services were called to a house fire in the 3500 block of North Thistlewood Court in Springfield.

One person who’s identity has not yet been released was found dead inside the home after the blaze was extinguished. The Greene County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the scene as a “suspicious fire”.

Westbound I-44 Closed – Hazmat Brought In

The Highway Patrol closed westbound I-44 after a crash involving two trucks at mile marker 95.

A hazmat was called in because one truck spilled chlorine tablets and the other truck was carrying diesel fuel.

There were no injuries.

Prosecutor Files Charges in Parking Lot Shooting

 

Charges have been filed in a shooting in a Walmart parking lot earlier this week.

The Greene County Prosecutors’ Office has charged 18-year-old Rominn Wagner with assault and two counts of armed criminal action.

He is in the Greene County Jail without bond.

The shooting occurred on the parking lot of the Walmart on north Kansas Expressway near Kearney.

Three Injured As Driver Crashes Into Springfield Business

Two people in the “Salon Suites Your Day Spa” were injured as well as the driver who crashed into the Springfield business near Kansas and Battlefield at about 10:30 Wednesday morning.

All injuries have been designated as “minor”. The driver allegedly hit the gas pedal instead of the brake.

Statewide Tornado Drill at 11:00AM Wednesday

On a very wintry-like day, it’s time to prepare for spring-time severe weather.

The annual Statewide Tornado Drill takes place at 11:00am Wednesday.

The National Weather Service asks you to treat the drill as if were an actual tornado warning and review your plan for taking shelter.

The drill is to test everyone’s readiness for life-threatening severe weather events, such as tornadoes, flash floods, and damaging winds.

Many school districts and businesses will be taking part in the tornado drill.

Snow Moving Out, High Winds All Day Wednesday

While highways across the Ozarks are mainly wet Wednesday morning, the snow that fell early in the morning has created visibility problems.

As of 7:45am, nine crashes and several stalled vehicles were being reported in the Springfield metro area, including wrecks on I-44 and Highway 65.

The MoDOT Traveler Information Map is reporting mainly wet roadways in southwest Missouri, with parts of Highway 13 north of Springfield and Highway 60 east of Springfield partly snow covered.

A High Wind Warning remains in effect until 6:00pm Wednesday for Barton, St. Clair and Vernon Counties to the north and west of Springfield, where up to 60 mile per hour wind gusts out of the northwest could bring down trees and some power lines.

We’ve had reports of several hundred power outages in the Ozarks Wednesday morning, including 200 in Barry County, with other outages in Dade and Polk Counties. Springfield City Utilities is reporting around 60 outages as of 8:00am.

Most of the Ozarks is under a Wind Advisory until 6:00pm Wednesday, with wind gusts up to 55 miles per hour. Unsecured objects will be blown around, and tree limbs could come down.

Winter Weather Advisory In Effect For Wednesday Morning

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for much of the Ozarks beginning at 3am Wednesday morning until 9am Wednesday.

Hazards include snow up to one and a a half inches, 45-60mph winds, and ice on roadways. Strong winds could also result in downed trees and power lines.

Counties involved in this advisory include Bourbon, Benton, Morgan, Vernon, St. Clair, Hickory, Camden, Pulaski,
Barton, Cedar, Polk, Dallas, Laclede, Jasper, Dade, Greene, Webster, Wright, Lawrence, and Christian.
