Severe Weather Threat for Parts of the Ozarks on Friday

Strong to severe thunderstorms are expected in parts of the Ozarks Friday afternoon into Friday night.

The National Weather Service says the severe risk is higher in the far eastern Ozarks, which is in a Level 3 “enhanced risk.”

Areas east of Highway 65 are under a Level 2 “slight risk,” while Springfield and areas just west of the metro have a level 1 “marginal risk” for severe storms.

Even when there aren’t thunderstorms in the area on Friday, it will be very windy outside, with potentially damaging wind gusts of 50 to 60 plus miles per hour.

Woman From Springfield Recovering From Gunshot Wound

A woman was shot in the arm at a duplex in Springfield Monday night. Police say several bullets hit the duplex in the 1600 block of East Kerr.

Police believe there were two shooters and that the victim was targeted. There’s no description of the shooters, but police say a white vehicle was seen driving from the scene.

Springfield May Ban Lane Splitting

Springfield City Council is considering making lane splitting illegal in the city.

That’s when motorcyclists go between two cars traveling in the same direction. The proposed ordinance would also make lane splitting illegal for bicyclists and scooters.

Pickup Driver Rams Nixa Patrol Car

Two people are in jail for ramming a Nixa police officer’s patrol car.

The officer tried to stop a pickup truck Sunday afternoon near Massey Boulevard and Tracker Road. The driver didn’t pull over right away, but later slammed on the brakes, shifted into reverse, and accelerated backward, hitting and disabling the patrol car.

The suspects were tracked to a home in the Pebble Creek subdivision. No one was hurt.

Blame May Fall On Squatters For Recent Housefire In Springfield

Fire has destroyed a home in North Springfield Monday morning.

Firefighters say there was no electricity going to the home in the 1600 block of North Missouri Avenue, but they believe someone may have been living there before the fire.

Pedestrian Killed Near Mercy

A pedestrian has died after being struck by a car on National near Mercy Hospital Saturday night.

Springfield Police say the victim was 71-year-old Danial Hayden.

The driver showed no signs of impairment.

Woman Shot – SGF Police Surround House

Springfield Police have surrounded a house on Link Avenue after a woman was shot during a domestic disturbance.

The woman was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.

The suspect has not yet been arrested.

Springfield Fire Victim Identified

The man who died in a house fire on Thistlewood Court, outside Springfield, earlier this week has been identified as 53-year-old Shaun Paul.

Greene County Sheriff’s officials say the circumstances of the fire are suspicious and it’s still under investigation.

High Winds Cause Red Flag Warning Across Ozarks

High winds and low relative humidity levels are combining to create a high fire danger for much of the Ozarks Friday.

The National Weather Service says we’ll have sustained winds of 15 to 25 miles per hour, with gusts up to 35, and wind directions will shift through the day. The “Red Flag Warning” is in effect from one until 6 p.m.

Camden County Commissioner Facing Charges

The Camden County Presiding Commissioner is facing multiple felony charges in connection with allegedly removing a license plate reading camera from U-S Highway 54.

Ike Skelton is charged with stealing, tampering with a service of utility, and obstructing government operations.

Skelton had ben vocally opposed to the cameras.

He has a court appearance in April.
