Willard Boy Accidentally Shoots Himself

Willard Police are investigating an accidental shooting involving a child.

Police say a 9-year-old boy accessed a locked firearm and shot himself in the hand.

The child was taken to a hospital and may have to have surgery.

The boy is expected to make a full recovery.

Willard Police say this is an isolated incident and the parents have cooperated with the investigation.

Four People Killed in Vernon County Crash

 

Four people were killed in a two-vehicle crash on U-S 54 near Walker in Vernon County Friday night.

The Highway Patrol says a car failed to stop at a stop sign and was struck by an S-U-V.

The car ran off the road and struck a fence and a tree.

Three women in the car and the man driving the S-U-V died at the scene.

The Highway Patrol says one of the victims was from Springfield.

The man driving the car and another woman passenger are hospitalized with serious injuries.

The women who died, were employed by the Climax Springs R-4 School District in Camden County, attending a basketball game in the area.

Parts Of Major Springfield Avenue Closing For Next Week

Part of Campbell Avenue will close next week for work that is part of the Renew Jordan Creek project.

Campbell will close between Water Street and Mill Street in downtown Springfield, starting Monday. Detours will be posted in the area, but access to businesses and parking lots will be open.

A longer closure of Campbell is expected to start this summer.

DEA And ICE Making Moves In The Ozarks

The Drug Enforcement Agency and Immigration and Customs Enforcement have arrested six people in Springfield who are allegedly in the country illegally.

The arrests were made Tuesday and Thursday. Greene County Jail records indicate at least two of those arrested lived in Springfield, two in Nixa, and one in Crane.

The Greene County Sheriff’s Office has a contract with ICE to hold detainees in the Greene County Jail.

Temps Rising Over The Weekend

We’ve had sub-zero temps in the Ozarks this morning, but a warm-up is on the way.

The National Weather Service says after staying in the upper 20’s today, we’ll be in the upper 30’s on Saturday, low 50’s on Sunday, and low 60’s for much of next week. Significant snow melting will occur this weekend into the beginning of next week.

Fire Destroys House Near Ash Grove

Fire destroyed a home south of Ash Grove on Farm Road 84.

No one was in the house when it caught fire.

The cause of the fire has not been determined.

No firefighters were injured fighting the blaze.
