Southeast Missouri Congressman Jason Smith says he’s fighting the United States Postal Service in an effort to cover the cost of late fees caused by bills getting delayed and “lost in the mail.”
Smith, who chairs the powerful House Ways and Means Committee, says the U.S.P.S. “must be held accountable for the financial toll its poor service is taking on rural Missourians.”
The “Pony Up Act” would allow anyone who incurred a late fee because a bill didn’t arrive on time to file a claim for repayment through an online portal or in person at any post office.
