UPDATE: There have been counties added to the Winter Storm Warning and Ice Storm Warning! Plus there is a Winter Weather Advisory in effect starting Sunday for the Springfield metro area and areas south of Springfield.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning until 6 AM Monday for the following counties in our listening area:
Cedar, Dallas, Hickory, Laclede, Polk, St. Clair and Vernon

Total snow and sleet accumulations between 2 and 4 inches and ice accumulations up to one half of an inch. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph. A flash freeze is possible Sunday afternoon into Sunday night as temperatures fall rapidly. * WHERE...Portions of central, east central, and southwest Missouri. * WHEN...From 6 PM this evening to 6 AM CST Monday. * IMPACTS...Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Persons should consider delaying all travel. If travel is absolutely necessary, drive with extreme caution. Consider taking a winter storm kit along with you, including such items as tire chains, booster cables, flashlight, shovel, blankets and extra clothing. Also take water, a first aid kit, and anything else that would help you survive in case you become stranded.

* WHAT…Significant icing expected. Total snow and sleet
accumulations up to two inches and ice accumulations of one
quarter to three quarters of an inch across much of the area, with
lesser amounts to the west toward Marshfield and Rogersville.
Winds gusting as high as 35 mph. A flash freeze is possible Sunday
evening into Sunday night as temperatures fall rapidly.
* WHERE…Dent, Shannon, Texas, Webster, and Wright Counties.
* WHEN…From 6 PM this evening to 6 AM CST Monday.
* IMPACTS…Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will
likely become slick and hazardous. Significant ice accumulation on
power lines and tree limbs may cause widespread and long-lasting
power outages.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…
Do not touch downed lines and report any power outages to your
electric company. Travel is highly discouraged due to slick roadways
and the possibility of downed trees and power lines.
A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from Noon Sunday through 6AM Monday for Springfield, Ozark, Nixa, Branson and counties south of the Springfield metro area.
