Missouri State Representative Proposing Legislation Requiring Insurance Companies Cover IVF Treatments

In an attempt to join neighboring states throughout the country, one Missouri politician is attempting to pass a bill that would require insurance companies in the state to cover IVF treatments for women and couples battling infertility.

In a release Wednesday, State Representative LaDonna Appelbaum says she wants Missouri to join the other 23 states in the U.S. that have similar laws in effect. That includes states like Arkansas, Colorado, Illinois, and others.

The proposal states that infertility would be named as a disease, condition, or status due to the person’s inability to “achieve a successful pregnancy based on a patient’s medical, sexual, and reproductive history, age, physical findings, diagnostic testing, or any combination thereof.”

Appelbaum says that while it may be tough to get the legislation passed, she has heard support from both the Missouri House and Senate from across the aisles, with both Republicans and Democrats backing the cause.

She said Wednesday, “There are so many people that know someone that has had to go through IVF treatment, whether it was successful or not, that want to have kids. It doesn’t make you a Republican, Democrat, or Independent if you want to have a baby. And so many of my friends from both sides of the aisle have gone through the treatment, and it was successful.”

Officials at Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield Using Prescribed Burns to Restore Landscape

In an effort to renew and revitalize the landscape of the national landmark, Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield will soon under controlled and prescribed burns around the park.

Officials at the battlefield memorial say the burns began yesterday, and will continue until Thursday, weather permitting.

With the burns taking place, several parts of the park will be closed to the public at different times, including trails, trailheads, and certain sections of the battlefield.

The museum and visitor’s center at the landmark will remain open while the burns are being conducted.

The specific locations of the burns are as follows:

  • Near the junction of Farm Road 182 and Highway ZZ
  • Stop 2 just east of the park road
  • Southwest of stop 5 near the park road
  • The southwest boundary of the park just east of Highway ZZ near Terrell Creek

The use of prescribed burns, officials hope, will allow the vegetation in the park to return to healthy levels, and exhibit conditions similar to those seen at the land during the historic Civil War battle that took place in 1861.

A house in Greene County that was the site of the worst massacre of law enforcement members in the 20th century has burned to the ground.

When Can Missourians Bet On Sports?

Following it’s official certification last week, the Missouri Gaming Commission is working towards opening sports betting by late summer of 2025.

Amendment 2 indicated that the Missouri Gaming Commission would have to license and regulate sports betting no later than December 1st, 2025. According to the commission, staff has been workshopping specific rules and regulations since before the November election.

Since Missouri is relatively late to sports betting, the commission has been able to communicate with states that have legalized it, learning what does and doesn’t work.
