New Laclede County 9-1-1 Emergency Call Center Opens

Laclede County cut the ribbon on their new 9-1-1 Emergency Call Center Thursday.

It was originally to open in May but was delayed while they waited on some key components.

The total cost of the new center is $5.1 million dollars and paid for with A-R-P-A funds.

Laclede County Sheriff Dave Millsap says having all dispatchers in the same building will make quicker response times.

Burn Bans Pour in as Drought Continues, Fire Risks Increase Across SWMO

As we approach nearly 30 days without significant rain in the Ozarks, many counties are putting burn bans in place due to the increase fire risks around the area.

Thursday morning, Webster County issued a burn ban, joining an extensive list of other counties in southwest Missouri that have done the same.

That includes: Barry, Barton, Cedar, Lawrence, and McDonald Counties, among potential others.

Fire officials have said that even if the county you live in has not issued a burn ban to this point, please be safe and refrain from burning if possible.

If you happen to see a fire grow out of control, contact 911 or your local fire department immediately.

U.S. Soldier from Fort Leonard Wood Found Dead, Being Investigated as Homicide

A missing United States soldier stationed at Fort Leonard Wood has been found dead, and authorities are investigating the case as a homicide.

The military base, located along I-44 between Springfield and St. Louis, says Sergeant Sarah Roque’s body was found in a dumpster on base Tuesday, October 22, after she was reported missing earlier in the week.

The Department of the Army Criminal Investigation Unit has now taken over the case.

She was 23-years-old.

Springfield May Be Receiving First Rainfall In A Month

Its been one month since we’ve had rain in the Springfield, but we have a chance of scattered rainfall in the Ozarks Thursday night into Friday morning.

The National Weather Service says chances are highest north of I-44 into central Missouri. Highest amounts will be around a tenth t a quarter of an inch.

Some locations will still remain completely dry through Friday.

Springfield Homeless Camp Raises Concern For Nearby Business

A homeless camp located in downtown Springfield is causing some concern for a nearby business.

The camp has grown from a single tent to several more in the last three months. Wayne Morelock, owner of Morelock Builders, says his employees are seeing syringes in the parking lot of the business. He also says two people drew guns on each other last week, but no shots were fired. Firefighters were also called to the scene Sunday because of an open fire.

The camp is located on land owned by Lamar advertising. Company officials are working with police to get the camp cleared away.

California Authorities Trying to Notify Family of Former Resident’s Death

Authorities in California are asking for help in finding the family of a former local resident.

The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office is trying to contact the family of 88-year-old Andre Nikolich who died of natural causes at a hospital.

The coroner cannot release his body until his family is notified. Nikolich once lived at Willow Springs.

The sheriff’s department released an I-D photo from when he was 55 years old.

If anyone knows any of his family members, you are asked to have them contact the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office.
