One man is in custody after allegedly assaulting and choking a nurse at Cox North Hospital in Springfield earlier this year.
Investigators say Caleb Bowling attack the nurse seemingly randomly the afternoon of August 19 at the hospital on North Jefferson Avenue. Reports indicate he put the victim in a headlock before another nurse came to the scene and was able to help get Bowling to the ground and get the victim away.
He is now charged with third-degree assault of a special victim. Authorities also discovered that Bowling was on parole for a DWI charge in Lawrence County and was facing resisting arrest and assault charges in Stone County from earlier this year as well.
A warrant has been issued for Bowling’s arrest.

Court documents show Bowling was charged earlier this year with misdemeanor assault on law enforcement, resisting arrest, and driving while revoked.

A member of the Springfield R-12 Public School board has announced he will not be running for reelection.
Steve Makoski announced Friday that he will not run a second term on the board.
He was elected to the school board in 2022.
He has called for school officials to limit student cell phone use and bring back corporal punishment.
This summer, Makoski failed to unseat Danette Proctor for leadership of the Greene County Republican Central Committee.
Makoski has also been a fill-in host on The Elijah Haahr Show on K-W-T-O.

The City of Bolivar has announced plans for the community’s first inclusive public playground.
The playground will be built on the grounds of the Bolivar Recreation and Aquatic Center on Broadway Street.
The playground will have several sets of sensory play equipment.
The playground is expected to be completed in the spring or summer of 2025.
