Fair Grove Voters Given Incorrect Ballots

The Greene County Clerk’s office has been notified that some voters in Fair Grove received incorrect ballots in Tuesdays municipal election.

Officials discovered that some addresses were not adjusted after the city changed several boundary lines in 2021, leading some individuals to be placed in the wrong ward.

Bipartisan teams of election judges will preform a hand recount Friday at 9am and a bipartisan board will certify the correct results on Monday.

Traffic Stop Leads to Two Arrests on Drug Charges in West Plains

West Plains Police have two people in custody after drugs were found in their truck, along with a handgun.

Authorities say they pulled over the pickup on April 2, and noticed a strong odor coming from the vehicle.

A K-9 unit with WPPD alerted officers that they detected drugs in the vehicle, which prompted a search.

During the search, an officer discovered a cigarette pack that had two baggies of methamphetamine inside.

A handgun was also discovered inside an unlocked gun box.

The two suspects, Miera Thomas and Damian Henry, were arrested at the scene.

Both Thomas and Henry are charged with possession of a controlled substance, while Henry is also charged with unlawful use of a weapon.

Thomas admitted to authorities that she would buy and sell narcotics in West Plains after they discovered $400 in cash on her person.

UPDATE: Suspect Surrenders To SGF Police After 8 Hour Standoff

A suspect is in custody after a standoff with Springfield Police.

Around 9 AM, a suspect forced the doors of a Pershing Middle School bus open at a bus stop then took the keys from the driver.

The students escaped during an altercation between the driver and suspect.

The suspect then barricaded himself in a house on South Barnes for eight hours before Springfield Police were able to arrest the suspect.

Springfield Public Schools said the driver and the students were not injured.

Attempted Kidnapping At Ava Grocery Store

 A woman is under arrested for attempting to kidnap a child in the parking lot of an Ava grocery store Saturday.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Department says an Ava Police officer responded to a report of a woman saying a woman was trying to take her child in a grocery store parking lot.

Officers observed Tabbitha Evans yelling at the woman, “Let me have her.”

She then attempted to grab the child from the woman.

Police believe Evans may have been under the influence and followed the woman and child from Ozark.

Evans bond is set at $10,000 and she is to stay out of Douglas County.

Utility Prices Potentially Doubling

Liberty Utilities has notified Bolivar residents of a potential spike in utility prices coming next year. The average current water bill is just over $38, while the new expected price is almost $70.

The city has hired a law firm to represent their concerns at a Missouri Public Utilities Commission hearing. Liberty Utilities also serves Christian, Taney, Stone, Lawrence, Barry and McDonald Counties

BREAKING: Police Standoff Underway in Springfield at Battlefield and Barnes

Details are limited, but Springfield Police are currently in a standoff with a man who had an altercation with a Springfield Public Schools bus that was filled with students.

Investigators say the man actually got onto the bus Wednesday morning and took the keys from the ignition. He also caused damaged and terrified students.

No students were injured.

Following the incident, the man barricaded himself inside a home on Barnes Avenue near the Battlefield Road intersection.

A large police presence is at the scene, with multiple SPD vehicles in the area. Authorities have also taped off the intersection to Barnes from Battlefield to keep residents out of harms way.

Incumbents Return To Willard School Board

Two incumbents will return to the Willard School Board after Tuesday’s election.

Matthew Young collected 35% of votes while Amanda Gooch amassed 26%. Other candidates included Megan Patrick with 23% of the vote, and Renee McKelvie with just under 14%.

The race also saw 34 write-in votes, which accounted for 1% of votes.

Marijuana Sales Taxes Passed Throughout The Ozarks

A 3% Sales Tax on adult-use recreational marijuana was heavily passed throughout the Ozarks on Tuesday.

Voters in Rogersville, Nixa, Republic, Fordland, Dent County, Pleasant Hope, Billings and several others approved the issue.

Billings has committed to use the extra funds for “capital improvements and operations of public safety services” and Pleasant Hope will use the funds to construct sidewalks.

Willard Mayoral Race Ends In Tie

The Willard Mayoral race has ended with both candidates, Samuel Snider and Troy Smith collecting 349 votes apiece.

Unless a likely recount yields a different result, this means a special election will be held in the near future.

The election also saw 5 votes for write-in candidates.
