C-U Warns of an Imposter Going Door-to-Door

City Utilities says it has received reports from customers of person going door-to-door, claiming to be a subcontractor for C-U selling solar panels.

C-U says it does not employ door-to-door salespeople nor do they sell solar panels.

C-U says if you are approached by a questionable individual claiming to represent C-U, you should call their offices at 417-863-9000 and report this activity.

This Year’s Birthplace of Route 66 Festival Announced

Organizers of the Birthplace of Route 66 Festival have announced the lineup of events for the 2024 event.

For the second year, there will be a “Great Route 66 Talent Search.”

There will be several stages with free live music performances.

The festival will kick off on August 8th with a street party at 7 pm featuring music by the Emerald City Band.

There will be a car show on Friday and Saturday.

There will be a parade on Friday night at 6 pm.

Firefighters Battle Blaze at Strafford

Greene County Firefighters spent most of Thursday morning working to put out a fire at a robotic testing facility in Strafford.

Crews were hindered by limited access to water and a large amount of lithium batteries stored in the building.

No one was injured but the building is a total loss.

Firefighters from Springfield, Logan-Rogersville, and Ebenezer battled the blaze.

Laclede County Deputies Looking for Suspect

Laclede County authorities are looking for a suspect in a hit-and-run crash.

The Laclede County Sheriff’s Department says Lori Phillips started a pursuit with a deputy Friday evening in Lebanon.

A passenger in her vehicle was Troy Covey, who fired at law enforcement during the pursuit.

Phillips is known to frequent the areas of Crocker, Richland, as well as Lebanon.

City of Springfield Removing Hate Speech From Public Property

The City of Springfield says it is working to remove hate speech from public property around the city.

The messages are the work of a white nationalist hate group and have been reported at parks, bus stops, on signposts, and on lampposts.

In a news release, the city denounced hate groups.

Residents are being asked to report any of the illegal signage to the City of Springfield or City Utilities.

Nixa To Vote on Recreational Marijuana Tax

Voters in Nixa will decide on a recreational marijuana tax in the upcoming election.

The Nixa City Council has placed a proposed three-percent sales tax on the April 2nd ballot.

The City of Nixa says if voters approve the measure, the tax revenue will go into the city’s general fund, with most of it going toward the Nixa Police Department.

Man Convicted of Camden County Murders Dies In Prison

A man convicted of murder in Camden County has died in prison.

The Missouri Department of Corrections says 61-year-old William Dyer died Saturday at the Jefferson City Correctional Center.

He was serving a life sentence for two counts of first-degree murder in Camden and Johnson Counties since 1978.

One Dead, Others Missing at Stockton Lake

The Missouri State Highway Patrol is searching for a group of people who have gone missing at Stockton Lake.

Troopers say a kayak was found in the water near Crabtree Cove just after noon Wednesday with a woman inside who had drowned.

Sgt. Mike McClure of the MSHP also reported that another group, at least two people, were reported missing this afternoon as well.

The investigation and search is still ongoing, so certain details about the incident have not been released.

The identity of the deceased woman, as well as the identities of those in the missing group, have not been released.

Forsyth Police Officer Released From Hospital After Being Shot

A Forsyth police officer who was shot Tuesday night has been released from the hospital.

Taney County Sheriff Brad Daniels says the officer’s bulletproof vest saved his life.

The officer saw a man walking near the intersection of Highways 160 and 76 in Kissee Mills.

When the officer tried to speak with the man, the suspect fired several shots.

He was taken into custody as authorities were aided by K-9’s and a drone.

Sheriff Daniels says the suspect had three guns when he was arrested.
